Make these ornaments the stars of your Christmas tree

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]f you’re looking for a way to reuse some old leftover cardstock or paper towel rolls, try one of these creative ideas for a homemade Christmas tree ornament.

Paper Towel Roll Stars
For a simple twist on a classic Christmas decoration, you can make snowflakes with just glue and a paper towel roll. Not only is this a way to recycle materials, this decoration is perfect for people who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
Flatten the paper towel roll and cut it into five half-inch circles. Once you do that, glue the flat sides of each circle to each other. Your goal is to have a five-pointed snowflake, and I recommend using paper clips or clothespins between each roll to make sure they don’t separate.
If you want to make your star look better, evenly spread some liquid glue with a paintbrush onto all visible sides of the snowflake and coat it with glitter.
Any color is fine, so it’s just a matter of personal preference. When you’re done with your star, tie a string or ribbon through a spike to have something to attach it to your Christmas tree with.

Mini Decorative Stars
If you want to add some stars to your tree, these ornaments are easy to make, as well as personalize to add a unique touch. All you need is some paper, scissors and glue. Cardstock, a kind of paper you can buy at craft stores like Joann’s or Michael’s, works exceptionally well because it’s sturdier and more durable than regular printer paper.
Start by drawing five stars onto your paper. I used a template just because the decoration will look nicer if the stars are the same size and shape.
Cut out the stars, and fold them each in half. Make sure you’re folding each star exactly down the middle so that the topmost part of the star is bisected. Finally, once you have the completed stars, it should be easy to just glue the sides of each piece together to make a three-dimensional, five-pointed star ornament.
If you’re stuck, the illustration below shows the correct way to fold and put the stars together. If you want to string the stars up, I would suggest hole-punching through the top of the star and threading a ribbon through it.
If you want to add a more personal touch to your stars, you can print photos of your family or pets and paste them onto the cardstock.
These small stars can also double as gift toppers, and before gluing the five stars together write who the gift is to and from.
