Mr. TC
In preparation for the April 3 pageant, Mr. TC candidates met in the lunch shelter after school on March 14 for their first day of rehearsal. This year’s contestants are Seniors Gavin Cheung, Kevin Lazatin, Samuel Lee, Ramon Luevano, Max Ozer, Stephen Rosebrook, Felipe Serrano, Brandon Soohoo and Zachary Turner.

The theme for the Mr. TC pageant this year is “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Ram.” Candidates will go through a Q&A session, perform skits and model sleepwear, fighter and animal clothing.

Car Crashes Near Cloverly
A blue Honda Civic skipped a curb and crashed into a home on Cloverly Ave. around 10 p.m. on Feb. 26. As a result, it damaged a wall and left tire marks on the lawn but no injuries were reported. The police took the driver in for suspicion of a DUI.
On March 2, another car accident occurred in the afternoon when a blue Sedan ran a stop sign and collided with a Toyota Camry, which sent the latter crashing into a house located on Live Oak Ave. One driver sustained minor injuries, while the other driver and the residents of the house remained unharmed. There was no suspected DUI for this incident.

Quantum Physics Club Advances
The Quantum Physics Club claimed fifth place at the Regional Science Olympiad Competition on Feb. 23 at Occidental College, making them a part of the top 10 high school teams in the county that are advancing to the April 6 state competition, which will be at Canyon High School in Anaheim. The Science Olympiad team consisted of 15 students, including the club’s captain and President Senior David Tran and Vice President Senior Rachel Dong competed against 48 other schools in their division through events that tested their knowledge in subjects like Geology, Physics and Technology.

FBLA Moves on to State Competition
After attending the Future Business Leaders of America’s competitive events on Feb. 23, certain members of FBLA managed to move from sectionals to state.
Students arrived at Gabrielino High School  at 7 a.m. to either participate in workshops or take exams that gauged their skills in various categories such as Accounting, Business Law and Marketing. TCHS students took part in the events as part of the new Mission Valley Section, which broke away from the Gold Coast Section in 2012.

New Pope

The cardinals of the Catholic Church elected Pope Francis, formerly Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, to become Benedict XVI’s successor as the 266th pope on March 13.
At 85 years old, Benedict XVI formally stepped down from his position on Feb. 28 due to age and diminishing health and summarily assumed his new title as Pope Emeritus. Hailing from Argentina, Pope Francis is the first Latin American pope, the first Jesuit pope, and the first to be named Francis.
