Sewell says his farewells to TCHS

Former Assistant Principal Mr. Chris Sewell spent his first day of school as principal of the Dr. Doug Sears Learning Center, CLC, after working five and a half years at Temple City High School.

Before working at the high school, Mr. Sewell worked in special education at a non-public school for students who were on probation or had severe disabilities. Because of CLC’s smaller population and campus size, he now has the opportunity to individually meet the needs of his students.

“I’ve always had a passion for working at alternative schools,” CLC Principal Mr. nSewell said. “So I saw it as a great opportunity for me to grow and share my knowledge while staying in the district.”

During his time at the high school, Mr. Sewell worked with special education students to start a reading program called “The Edge.” He also established RAMS and the Electronic Use Policy.

“An area where he will be missed is with our special education students and staff,” Principal Ms. Mary Jo Fosselman-King said. “This was a real strength for us since he has a degree in this area that will be difficult to replace.”

Some of the goals Mr. Sewell has for CLC are to increase extracurricular opportunities, strengthen the sports teams, createa student council and promote in-class technology use, as well as to implement project-based learning in the classrooms to improve the students’ analytic thinking.

“I loved working with Mr. Sewell,” Assistant Principal Mr. Kevin Herington said. “He has a great work ethic and a good sense of how decisions impact an entire school.”

Administration is searching for another assistant principal in place of Mr. Sewell and has been conducting interviews since late August.

“He will be greatly missed by our administrative team,” Ms. Fosselman-King said. “But he is not far away, so I know we will always remain friends.”
