Prompose with these shining, shimmering, splendid ideas

With prom season just around the corner, many students are scrambling to get a poster and flowers for that special someone. Don’t ask your date in the typical, boring fashion. Instead surprise your soon-to-be date with one of these exciting ideas.

Scratchers
Some people prefer to stay out of the spotlight and just have a cute and personal prom asking. You don’t necessarily need a crowd of people to make someone feel special. Your date can scratch away the surface to find a secret proposal.

You’re going to need a card, or perhaps several cards, before you start making the scratch surface. You may want to ask with one big card, or several small ones. Cut out the cards from sheets of colored construction paper. If you plan on using several small cards, cut the paper after printing. You will also need clear masking tape, acrylic paint in the color of your choice and dishwashing soap. Put a piece of tape over your message, where you want your date to scratch.

Mix a gumdrop’s worth of acrylic paint with dishwashing soap. The paint to soap ratio should be 2:1. Using this mixture, paint over the clear packing tape. Your intended date can scratch the layer off and reveal what is written underneath.

The False Assignment
Make your own fake homework and pretend to struggle with it. Use any subject, like literature. You could do a simple questionnaire. For instance, your first question might be, “Who wrote the famous play Hamlet?” and the answer would be William Shakespeare. In the answer blank, the first four spaces would be underlined to emphasize “will,” which will later be followed by “you,” “come,” “to,” “prom,” “with” and “me.”

Perhaps you want to make this homework more difficult. You can make up multiple choice questions, or even take some from your textbook, that require solving. Say the first answer is “w.” Make sure there are blanks at the bottom of the page with numbers below them to indicate where each letter is supposed to go. Note that the numbers should correlate with the question numbers. After your potential prom date completes the worksheet, you’ll have already “promposed.”

The Prom Present
To many, going to prom is one of the best gifts that high school can offer. Perhaps he or she dreams of a big “promposal” where he or she can stand in the spotlight. Why not surprise your potential date by asking, but in the form of a present?

Find a cardboard box big enough for you to crouch in. Using a box cutter or X-Acto knife, carefully cut horizontal lines about three inches from the top on three sides to create an opening lid.

Paint the box to look like a gift, though you can decorate it however you like. You can add ribbon around the box and even put a big bow on the top.Have your friends bring your date while you sit quietly in your gift box.
When he or she arrives, you’ll pop out of the box and ask that special person to prom. If you want to top things off even more, have a real present in your hands. This will be sure to surprise your soon-to-be date.
