“Frozen” brightens the night sky

Blankets, lawn chairs and food trucks will cover the practice soccer field on April 25 for the first Outdoor Movie Night, featuring Disney’s “Frozen,” from 7 to 10 p.m.

Fundraising Commissioner Senior Staci Lu-Nguyen worked with Activities Director Mr. Michael Kidd to research and book companies to provide the screens, to purchase the copyright to show the movie and to contact food trucks. They decided to show “Frozen” instead of other films such as “Despicable Me 2.”

“The obvious reason why we chose ‘Frozen’ is that it’s very, very popular, but that’s not only it,” Lu-Nguyen said. “We wanted a movie that we can show not only to our students, but also to the youth of Temple City.”

Five food trucks will serve drinks and meals to moviegoers, each one donating a portion of the proceeds to a different school in the district. Tea Bar Starry will donate a percentage of its revenue to TCHS, A Rockin’ Ice to Oak Avenue Intermediate, Kettle Corn to Emperor Elementary, Slammin’ Sliders to Longden Elementary and TNB BBQ to Cloverly Elementary and La Rosa Elementary.

“It’s the first time we’ve done this,” Lu-Nguyen said. “We hope at least 250 people come, so we can do it again if it’s successful.”
