Teachers and ASBL connect with pairings

This year, ASB matched its members to the teaching and administrative staff in a three-to-one ratio, in order to strengthen its relationship with the staff.

“I think that there’s a lack of communication between some of our faculty and ASB,” ASB Advisor Mr. Michael Kidd said. “A lot of times, faculty members make assumptions about ASB and what they do, and the reverse is also true. We wanted a system that promoted better communication.”

Senior Staff Liaison Nancy Chin encouraged ASB to meet with their designated teachers before and after the last spirit week in order to inform them about activities and ask for feedback.

Some teachers reported that the seating process was very slow, which ultimately affected the length of the assembly and their classes. Other teachers noted that ASB members haven’t been meeting with them. The teachers that ASB have been communicating with have provided positive results.

“I actually think that the new system is really good,” English Teacher Ms. Kendra Miller said. “I think it’s always good to promote more communication and get the teachers and get students involved.”

ASB hopes to use the feedback from these monthly checkups in order to promote staff involvement in their events.

“I think that it’s a great idea,” Principal Ms. Mary Jo Fosselman King said. “Anything that we can do to enhance communication, I’m all for. Maybe we’ll get more teachers involved.”
