Q&A: Girls Water Polo reflects on title

After going undefeated and winning the Rio Hondo League championship, the Lady Rams shared their thoughts on the season.

Rampage: Describe the moment you realized you had won the league championship.
Co-Captain Senior Kyrsten Proctor: I was really excited we made it this far. In three years being on Varsity, this was the first time we won it, so it was an amazing experience.

Rampage: What type of impact did Coach Oscar Dorado have on the players?
Senior Diana Hou: He has really made us all more cohesive and has built up our strength a lot.

Rampage: How did the team stay motivated throughout the season?
Senior Jenny Romney: Honestly, I feel that our team bonding is what took us so far this season. Over the last couple of years, I felt the players had become very disconnected, but this year, we were one unified group.

Rampage: You won your first playoff game against the El Modena Vanguards. What did you do well in that game?
Co-Captain Sophomore Gabi Sicat: The score was 14-4, so we had a really positive offense and defense. Also, our counters were strong. We were really fast and got a lot of breakaways.

Rampage: What obstacles did you face in your playoff game against Redlands East Valley High?
Junior Ellie White: I think it was the aggressiveness of our opponents and the struggle to finish our shots in the game.
Rampage: What has your team’s C.I.F. experience this year taught you?
Freshman Lindsey Irie: It taught me that once you get to C.I.F., there is no going back. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, all that matters is that you played as a team.

Rampage: What would you like to say to the fans that came out to watch your games?
Proctor: Thank you. It is actually really helpful when they are there because it reminds us that people are supporting us.
