Teachers break silence on homework over break

“We expect our students to put in many hours of studying throughout the year so I think it’s good to give them a break that is free of academic demands. This new policy shows that we value time to rest and spend with family, which can be just as important as the time we spend working hard.” – Biology teacher Ms. AnnMarie Hwang

“I voted no on the policy. Binding teachers to a blanket policy limits our ability to serve our students and their differing abilities and skill levels. Individual teachers should be allowed to use their good judgement to know what their students need.” – English teacher Mr. Dale Smith

“I agree with the new policy. I feel a “break”, Winter or Spring, should be just that, a break. Our students and teachers need some time out now and again. We all need time to spend with family and friends. Time to relax, enjoy and reconnect. To travel, have adventures and activities away from the rigorous schedule of high school and the responsibilities that go with it.” – Art teacher Ms. Sue Hook
