DJ Bik turns tables with lit tracks

Junior Ben Clark’s Saturday night is lit, with his friends dancing carelessly along as he DJ’s blasting music. If he is not playing football, you can easily catch him in his room practicing with his DJ equipment.
“The thing that got me into DJing was how bad it was at Sadie’s last year,” Clark said. “It got me thinking, how hard could it actually be?”
Clark does not make his own music, but rather plays it for enjoyment. In the future, he would like to continue playing music at dances or parties, and possibly pursue DJing as a career. Clark plans to play more at parties, and hopes to play for more school assemblies or dances. He has done a few parties before, and practices in front of his friends. Last year, he even performed at the Renaissance assembly, broadcasting his mixing skills in front of the entire school.
“It is just so fun to play music that makes people dance and open up,” Clark said. “It is also a challenge to play the music that the people want, since it is not just what music you want.”
Like most famous DJ’s, Clark plays electronic dance music, or EDM. On stage, his name is DJ Bik, which is based on his full name, Ben Lawrence Clark. His stage name is basically his initials, however with an I and K instead of an L and C. His fan base call themselves the Bik Lickers.
“It’s pretty awesome how he has gained attraction from this new hobby, and how people know who DJ Bik is,” Junior Keefe Irsjad said. “Ben used to play country music, but now he plays very loud EDM, which I guess is a little more bearable.”
Depending on the night, Clark generally hosts lively, mini raves for his friends to dance. He usually begins when the sun is down, and ends at around 10:30 p.m.
“It is really cool to see a close friend pick up something so fast and excel at it,” Junior Amanda Escobar said. “Ben’s passion is clearly shown when he plays, and I can always count on him to play music I can dance to.”
