They took a hit, but they won’t quit

With a current overall record of 6-10, the Girls Varsity Volleyball team has had a demanding season. The Lady Rams’ most recent defeat was a 3-0 loss on Oct. 5 against the La Cañada Spartans; however, Lady Rams then prevailed against the Blair Vikings with a 3-0 win on Oct. 10.  The team’s most recent match ended with a 3-2 loss to the San Marino Titans on Oct. 12.
The Lady Rams have faced several drawbacks, including losing top ranked player Senior Serena Gray, who was a middle hitter.
Moreover, the team members have had difficulties with connecting with one another due to the addition of seven new players. The weakness in synergy has negatively affected the team’s performance.
“I think our passing is pretty good since almost all of our passers have been on the team for at least three years,” Senior Ashley Grinstead said. “Sadly, since Serena Gray isn’t playing this year, we don’t have as strong of a hitter anymore.”
To make up for their weaknesses, the Lady Rams review mistakes they made during matches with Head Coach Lyle Takeshita, so they will not make the same mistakes in the future.
“When we lose a game, we become a pretty quiet team,” Sophomore Andrea Chen said.  “But we don’t put our heads down. Even though we’ve lost, we still encourage each other because we know that we can accomplish anything as a team. “
Despite the team’s defeats, Coach Takeshita believes that this year’s team will increase its competitiveness and that its hard work will correlate with a positive outcome in the future.
“We’re a fairly young team and many have came in with little varsity experience,” Coach Lyle Takeshita said. “But the new members are responding and getting more of the varsity level skills.”
The team’s next home game will be against the Monrovia Wildcats on Oct. 19.
