Q&A with Holmes

After the departures of Assistant Principals Mr. Aaron Chang and Ms. Laura Sanchez, Assistant Principal Mr. Christopher Holmes filled in one of the available positions, starting his work on Nov. 1.

Q: Why have you come to Temple City?
A: “I came to TCHS because I applied for the position of assistant principal. I was interviewed for the position in September and was asked to fill the position. It has been a goal of mine since 2011 or 2012.
So, when I was asked to become an assistant principal, I knew TC was a very great school with great kids, I jumped at the chance.”

Q: As an assistant principal, what are your goals for TCHS?
A: “My goals to begin with, are to learn about the culture and what makes TCHS so special, and identify those things I can do outside of my normal job duties to help contribute to the school. TCHS has been around for a long time and has been doing great things for a long time, so it doesn’t need me to come here and change anything.”

Q: How is TCHS turning out for you so far? What do you enjoy here?
A: “It’s been going great because everybody is welcoming. I think in terms of meeting students, everyone has been so kind, respectful and welcoming.”

Q: Before you became an assistant principal here, what were you doing as a profession?
A: “For the last 14 years, I’ve been at Diamond Bar High School. This year was the beginning of my 15th year as a teacher at DBHS. I teach biology, and in the past ten years, I’ve been teaching Advanced Placement Biology. I’ve coached basketball and a few other sports as well, but my main focus outside of the classroom was coaching basketball.”

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: “I try to exercise. In the past year, I’ve ran in a few half marathons. But, if I’m not exercising or working, or reading anything related to my work here at TC, I’m with my kids.”
