Netflix shows, movies to binge over break

Winter break is the prime time to binge-watch all of your favorite shows, and there’s nothing worse than running out of television to watch. If you happen to be in that boat, here are some shows you can find on Netflix, and binge to your heart’s content.

“Skins” (UK) – TV-MA
This British TV series covers the lives of a group of teenagers finishing their final two years of school before going to university. “Skins” doesn’t shy from topics like eating disorders, abusive relationships or sexuality.
The show also keeps things fresh by mixing up their cast every two seasons, so even though the series spans a total of seven volumes, it never feels old or redundant.

“Crazy Ex Girlfriend” – TV-14
This show really has it all, not only is it a hilarious romantic comedy/drama, but it has an incredibly diverse cast, and to top it all off it’s a musical!
The story covers the life of Rebecca Bunch, a depressed New York lawyer who runs into a high school ex boyfriend on the street, finds out he lives in West Covina, California, and proceeds to move to West Covina in order to win him back. She becomes comically obsessed with this ex-boyfriend, plotting increasingly ridiculous ideas to make him fall in love with her.
“Portlandia” -TV-14
If you’re a fan of SNL, or if you can’t stand hipsters, Portlandia is the show for you.
Set in the hipster-tastic town of Portland, Oregon, each episode is centered around the wacky antics of two locals: Fred and Carrie.
However, much like SNL, episodes will follow several different skit-like arcs. This show is totally lighthearted and fun, and guaranteed to have you busting a gut before you can say “Gluten Free Coffee.”

In the mood to binge, but don’t have the time for a whole season? Netflix offers a wonderful selection of movies to peruse.

“Penelope” – PG
This whimsical romantic comedy is the perfect movie to put on if you’re chilling with bae. The main character, Penelope, is a young woman from a wealthy family, who is cursed with the nose of a pig.
The only way to break the curse is to find someone ‘of her own kind’ to love her back.
Thinking this means she must find someone of her same social status, her parents make her meet hundreds of rich suitors.
However, love strikes when she meets Max, a young blueblood with a gambling problem.
I won’t say much more in case I spoil the movie but, trust me. This is one romance you’ll want to see through.
“Sing Street” – PG-13
This adorable movie follows teens in Dublin in the 1980s as they navigate growing up, love, and family issues. The main character, Connor, takes it upon himself to start a band, believing it will impress the older girl he’s in love with. As the movie progresses, the audience follows the band, Sing Street, as they find their sound, and their way through life.

“Meet The Robinsons”- PG
Disney’s “Meet the Robinsons” is one of the House of Mouse’s most underappreciated films.Centered around themes of family, Meet the Robinsons follows an orphaned boy who attempts to invent a machine that will allow him to remember who his mother was. Things get wacky however, when his son from the future travels back in time to meet him! If you like heartwarming, quirky animated movies, then you’ll enjoy this family-friendly feature.
