Wading into the season

The Girls Varsity Water Polo team looks ahead to not only attend CIF but also to surpass its competitors.
The Lady Rams had a slow start to the season, for the Boys Varsity Water Polo team occupied the pool in order to practice for CIF.
So far, the Lady Rams have not played any official matches against other teams; rather, they have only played scrimmages.
Unfortunately for the Lady Rams, this slow start will continue because the pool is currently being remodeled and will not be available anytime soon.
“We do expect a lot of tough competition this season,” Junior Nancy Trinh said. “But, we are even more motivated by this fact in order to train harder.”
For this season, the team has created a new player roster and is eager to experiment with it.
Since the school pool is unavailable, the team is holding its practices at the Rosemead Aquatic Center.
“No matter the player, we still all share the same burning love for water polo,” Trinh said. “That love will spur the team on further.”
The Lady Rams’ recent scrimmages include a draw against the Schurr High School Spartans and a victory over the Bonita High School Bearcats.
The team originally planned to have its first official game against the Redondo Union High School Seahawks on Dec. 6; however, the game was canceled due to foul air quality from a nearby fire.
“The team was really disappointed,” Sophomore Phoebe Loh said. “We were all looking to play our first game as a new team together.”
The team still does not know if the canceled game will be rescheduled.
The Lady Rams’ next game is against the La Serna High School Lancers on Jan. 4.
