Homecoming Princesses charm school

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he sound of cheering grows louder as the ASB Leaders enter each of the homecoming princesses’ rooms, waking them from their beauty sleep to congratulate them on their nominations.
Every year, the beginning of the school year brings the homecoming game. Along with that, students nominate senior girls who impact the community and act as role models to be on Homecoming Court.
This year’s Court, consisting of Amber Estrada, Kelly Guo, Victoria Lam, Fionne Ma and Caroline Sun, introduced themselves on Oct. 10 during lunch.
That morning, ASB Leadership surprised the princesses at each of their own homes and dressed them in mismatched outfits. Afterwards, they attended a breakfast with ASBL in Rm. 311.
Surprisingly, most of the homecoming princesses did not expect to be on court, although many of their friends had mentioned that they would be nominating them.
“Ever since I knew what Homecoming Queen was, I wanted to be nominated. I asked my drill team to nominate me, but I never thought I’d get it,” Estrada said. “I’m friends with all the girls who were nominated so I’ll be happy with whoever wins.”
In the week leading up to the Homecoming game, the princesses participate in activities that allow the student body to get to know them well enough to cast a vote.
These events are usually unexpected and enjoyable for both participants and viewers.

“I’ve seen three other years of homecoming court and I really feel a personal connection with the things that ASB plans for these girls,” Guo said. “After going through this process so many times as an ASB member, I’m definitely excited that this year, I’ll be experiencing it as a princess.”
The homecoming activities are very entertaining and funny, even if we get a little embarrassed.”
Each homecoming princess stands out in her own style, personality and extracurricular activities.
“I’m grateful for this bonding experience because we get along so well,” Sun said. “We are all distinct and unique individuals who have an equal chance at winning the crown.”
They all aspire to be Homecoming Queen for their own reasons, from earning the title to representing their school.
“I want to be on court to make my parents and grandparents proud,” Ma said. “Homecoming Queen is a much bigger deal than all the other queens and it’s definitely a big deal in Temple City.”
Overall, the experience has been incredible for each of the girls, and the announcement of homecoming queen leaves them nervous with anticipation.
“Winning Homecoming Queen would make me so happy that not even words would be able to describe how I feel,” Lam said. “If being nominated as a princess made me feel so amazing, I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to win. It would truly be a dream come true.”
The Homecoming Queen will be announced during the homecoming game against La Canada that begins at 7:00 p.m. on the football field.
