Dressing to impress is the only thing on sophomore Alan Song’s mind when he looks through his versatile closet. He’s put together an original outfit, composed of a fur denim jacket, a blue/yellow SZA jersey resting on his arms, a black and white striped long-sleeve for layering and jeans with intricate patchwork.

“I believe one’s appearance is a part of their overall value and identity,” Song said. “Only when people see me will they possibly pause to listen to my voice and views. Only then might I have a chance, with my perspectives, to shake stereotypes to their core. So I see this as my way of speaking out. I want to open people’s eyes to new possibilities, to question their assumptions. There is beauty in diversity and my style is my voice.”

Taking inspiration from some of his favorite singers like Doja Cat and Billie Eilish, he creates friction and confidence in the outfit he wears— mixing different styles to create his own.

Comfort is the first priority on junior Elijah Chan’s year-round agenda as an avid pajama pants wearer. His outfit consists of a light blue Champion hoodie, dark blue and black plaid pajama pants, black Nike sneakers and a relaxed, comfortable composure. Although he isn’t a brand-specific shopper, Adidas sweatpants do the trick for him when he’s trying to feel free and relaxed.

“If someone has found their self-expression in the way that they dress, I think that’s great,” Chan said. “If you sacrifice comfortability with that, you can get distracted by other things like having a thousand accessories on and not be so focused on your studies.”

Avoiding overly flashy clothing garments, Chan goes for very soft and snug materials to keep attention off him while he does his own thing. With his comfortable closet, he gets through his daily life ten times easier.
