Apple fritters:
- 2 apples of your choice
- [Optional: 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice]
- 1⁄2 cup of milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 11⁄2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoons brown sugar
Maple glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3-4 teaspoons milk (depending on how thick you want
- your glaze)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
Instructions:
- Peel, core and dice two apples into one centimeter cubes. [Optional: Pour one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice over cubed apples to prevent browning.]
- In a large separate bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter and one egg.
- In another bowl combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and brown sugar.
- Pour and mix the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Stir until the batter thickens and becomes slightly sticky.
- Mix in diced apples.
- To assemble the maple glaze, combine powdered sugar with maple syrup. While mixing, slowly add in milk until viscous.
- Prepare cooking oil on medium-high heat. Drop a small piece of batter in the oil to test if it is hot enough. If the batter floats to the surface, you can start frying.
- Scoop small chunks of finished batter into the pan. Fry chunks until golden brown.
- Plate finished fritters, then pour maple glaze over to taste.
