Students, parents and alumni posted comments after reading the Temple City Tribune article regarding complaints of Ms. Linda Simons’ conduct as TCHS aquatics program’s coach, which was published online on May 16.

Conversations around campus reflected varied opinions on the issues brought up in the article. Supporters, including students, staff, alumni and parents, have been creating groups and pages on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the web version of the Temple City Tribune article has become a sort of forum, with people responding with their opinions on the aquatics program and the role of coaches and Ms. Simons.

“Water polo is a physically tough sport, and I do believe that often to get the job done, coaching needs to be tough,” online commenter and aquatics team member Senior Noelle Rudeen said. “I do understand that some things cross the line. But understand that to be successful, it often requires pushing from a coach.”

Five members of the water polo team met with administration over the attendance policy and how it affected their grades. These meetings occurred shortly before and after Spring Break. During the two meetings, aquatics athletes voiced their concerns. Administration also met with Ms. Simons after each meeting and relayed students’ thoughts and feelings.
The administration is still examining the situation and no determination has been made. Administration asked all athletes and students to directly report any concerns.

“If you aren’t happy with the way things are going, come talk to us,” Principal Ms. Mary Jo Fosselman-King said. “If you feel like we aren’t listening, please go above our heads. Go to the superintendent.”
