Simplee Cynthia: Anecdotes and Observations

In the words of the wise Rihanna, one must always “shine bright like a diamond.” We all aspire to be sparkly, dazzling and fabulous individuals, but in this world of more than seven billion people, it can be hard to do as Rihanna says and truly shine bright and stand out from everyone else. How, you may ask then, is it possible to shine on my own? Well, young grasshopper, let me tell you.
What’s made of ground-up rainbows, sunshine, happiness, the tinkling laughter of babies and playful barking of puppies?
Glitter, of course. If you’ve never used glitter before, then I encourage you to hop in the car and drive to the nearest craft store immediately because you have not lived until you have worked with glitter. Words cannot do glitter justice, but it is certainly more than just tiny, reflective and shimmery particles. It brings meaning into my life and if you’ve ever encountered a pool of red or gold glitter in your seat in your English or APES class, you probably have me to thank.
Glitter isn’t tacky at all, contrary to what many may think. I use glitter in almost every aspect of my everday life, decorating projects, bedazzling my nails and even sprinkling some glittery happiness onto my homework sometimes. It turns things from drab to fab.
And guys, “glitter is girly” is no excuse to hate on all things sparkly and shiny. During my sophomore year, we had a WHAP project that required us to create a board game, and our group chose to design one called “Steps and Sacrifices,” which I think speaks for itself. We chose to make a game that focused on human sacrifice, yet I still managed to sneak some fabulous glitter onto it. After you’ve successfully avoided drowning in the snaking rivers of blood and navigated the treacherous board with your severed foot and severed head game pieces, you win the beautiful treasure chest made of golden glitter.
Sure, I had glitter in my hair, bed and desk for weeks afterwards, but that simply gave me an excuse to fulfill my dream of joining the ranks of Tinkerbell, becoming a sparkly glitter fairy.
Glitter just gives things that extra wow factor that most of us seem to lack. So, make Rihanna proud. “Shine bright like a diamond.”
