Faculty Retirements
After many years at TCHS, Ms. Frankie Connor, Mr. Rich Hollinger, Ms. Julie Jorgenson, Mr. David Schendel and Mr. John VanDerVeere are ready to retire. For the next school year, Ms. Diane Chang Ho will be taking over the Graphic Communications ROP class in place of Mr. Hollinger and Mr. Riley Saxon will take over for Mr. Schendel. There has not been a replacement for Mr. VanDerVeere yet but the search in progress.

Second Annual Dodgeball Tournament
The baseball and softball players teamed up on Friday, June 6, and won the $400 jackpot in the 2nd Annual Dodgeball Tournament in the gym from 5-7:30 p.m. 15 teams entered the tournament, and the finals occurred between teams “Headbandz” and “Fluffy.”
The winning team consisted of Sophomores Dylan Stratis, Celina Mesa, Paul Kosanovich and Tyler Hazlett and Freshmen Juliette Marini and Ryan Lewis.
This year, spectators viewed the tournament draw using the app Brackelope. Teams checked in before the match at 4:15 p.m. and paid $6 per person to join a team. ASBL charged viewers $3 for entrance and a taco. Taquisa sold tacos for $1.25 and horchata for $2.

BSS Extravaganza Showcases Talent
Brighter Side Singers performed on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30 at 7 pm in their 31st annual extravaganza titled “There’s No Business Like Show Business” in Theatre Rm. 601.
The show featured musical selections from Broadway shows such as: “Hairspray,” “Charlie Brown,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “You’re a Good Man,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”
There were also covers of songs by Josh Groban, Christina Aguilera and Celtic Women, as well as tributes to N’Sync and to the Andrews Sisters.

APES Garden Clean-up
Working in the smothering heat, AP Environmental Science students dig out weeds and clear the paths in the California native garden behind the 400 building.  As part of a final project, AP Environmental Science teacher Mr. Scott Randles’ students are cleaning up the garden in order to prevent the garden from being converted to a lawn.
The garden is home to various plant species native to California, including purple sage, hummingbird sage and hillside gooseberry.

Softball Coach Arrested
Junior Varsity Girls Softball coach Ryan Frontino appeared in L.A. County Superior Court in Alhambra on June 9, facing charges of unlawful sex with a minor whom he coached.
Sheriffs began investigating Frontino on May 19 after the girl’s mother reportedly found sexually explicit messages from the coach on her daughter’s cell phone and notified authorities. Three days later, He was arrested and confessed to the allegations. Frontino, a walk-on coach at TCHS since 2011, had met and coached the victim over the past few years. He is currently being held on $260,000 bail.

Ms. Rudzik Receives Scholarship
History teacher Ms. Stacy Rudzik won a full scholarship to study Native American history in a seminar at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, from Aug. 3-9. She came across the opportunity from an email from the Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History, and submitted an essay that listed her qualifications and demonstrated her passion for the subject. From the experience, she hopes to broaden her understanding of Native American History and apply it to her class.
