Having a doggone good day

Stepping onto the sandy path running along Huntington Dog Beach on April 7 was like stepping into doggy heaven. Forming a whole bazaar of unique dog related goods and services as well as a multitude of food trucks, Corgi Beach Day managed to do the impossible: unite all Corgi as well as general dog lovers into one beautiful sunlit paradise for a harmonious day of play!
Sheer anticipation wipes the hour drive away, but as soon as arriving to the Huntington Dog Beach there was already a huge crowd flowing down the streets in anticipation for the event.
For one, the beach in general is always going to be crowded so make sure to rise early to beat the traffic jams on your way. Also, parking is a big fat mess, and you shouldn’t waste $10-$15 just to park right at the beach.
Instead, parking along residential areas across from the ocean might be preferable as long as it’s close enough to the beach.
At the venue, attire is very important no matter how it looks outside because the sun will always show up.
Make sure to stick to light short sleeve shirts, shorts and flip flop and sandals or any kind of active wear so you can play around comfortably and not melt under that California heat.
Besides bringing money and your camera or phone to take doggy pictures, it isn’t necessary to bring anything else unless it’s kibble.
Through the human and automobile traffic, from the streets all the way to the seashore is a massive sea of corgis and a bunch of different dog breeds ranging from a ditsy Shiba to your smiling Pomeranian. This isn’t an experience you could just simply see through a live recap on Facebook or Snapchat.
The main event consists of a market of dog related goods from a wide variety of sponsors and vendors. Such businesses alike cater to the well being of dogs and their human companions with a variety of merchandise ranging from blankets artwork, to corgi plushies.
Sponsors like Healthy Spot along with VDCRx and Vetcreations provide an array of health and wellness support for the furry companions while Wag City clothing and Bowtique provide an array of cute costumes and clothes.
Along with said vendors, you can even adopt your own very corgi through the help of the non-profit Queen’s Stumpy Dog Rescue which helps to provide homes for special needs corgis.
With all of man’s best friend frolicking along the beach, it’s safe to say the Corgi Beach Day event is one of the happiest places on earth.
With a whole host of venues and contests such as “Best Butt,” Corgi Beach Day establishes itself as not only an event, but rather a festival seeking to appreciate and celebrate our canine compatriots.
