A guide to Nguyen-ing in high school

It’s finally the end of the year, and what can I say? Senior year has been so unforgettable, and surprisingly, it went by faster than them edgy high school drivers. Throughout the year, I’ve been able to learn about who I am and the things around me, all while continuing to grow.
Senior year isn’t going to be chill at all, FYI, but that’s a good thing because it’s the first step into what real life might feel like.
Senior year’s most important quality is its reflective powers. Ooooh, spooky right? Not quite. For me, senior year seemed like a final exam; drawing every moment of love and pain from each and every year before it in order to test your resolve, to see if you’ve learned from your mistakes and if you’ve grown from them.
For me personally, there were major themes that reoccurred constantly throughout the year; being able to handle working five days a week, staying in touch with family, making an effort to forgive and apologize to my friends and learning from my mistakes by understanding what I did wrong in the first place are all examples. Whether it was hamming my way through six hour shifts while balancing school work, stopping myself from overthinking every situation I was in or understanding that not everybody has to like me,what all of these “tests” served to do was teach me that life is full of constant suffering. It’s inevitable.
But through that suffering, like that of a forge of adversities, a strong shining sword will remain. No matter what comes your way, conquer it and move forward in life!
Senior year brings back all those memories like a flood; not to overwhelm and drown you out, but rather to wash you and get you ready for the years ahead. As Tupac once said, keep ya head up!
Senior year is also about focusing on who you really are. You probably know who you are already, but that isn’t just knowing your name, age, or the way you wear your clothes. Who you are is what will ultimately shape the world. Never forget that, never change either, for anybody.
But that isn’t to say that you stay the same. As Dory once said, “Just keep swimming.” You don’t have to change to be someone you’re not or to be more like someone you admire. Everybody has their own path in life.
Instead of changing, grow to be a better version of you, the person you want to see in the world. Who you are is an important reminder that you aren’t alone, At the end of the day, you are one piece of many!
So remember, love yourself, love your neighbor, open your heart up and keep your eyes wide open to the many possibilities of the world. You only got one life, enjoy it!
