Committees of ASB

As you walk around our campus, you may notice posters for school events and dances, or when you are on social media, you might see a recognition video posted by @ramsofren. The TCHS ASBL is in charge of those details, as well as many other factors that contribute to life on campus. Although they are known as ASBL collectively, ASB consists of six different committees, each of which focuses on specific tasks.

Executive
The Executive committee is in charge of the decision-making, such as budgeting and approving events. Class presidents also have the role of being a spokesperson for their class. It is important for them to reach out to their classmates and have a wide knowledge of what happens on campus.
“I chose to run for presidency or executives, because I wanted to be a part of a team that can get involved and help our class,” Sophomore Lia Wang said. “It is my goal to help students feel more inclusive towards everyone’s high school experience.”
Renaissance
As one of the Renaissance commissioners, Senior Elizabeth Wu works with her committee to recognize students every week for their special talents, skills or hard work.
The Renaissance committee is in charge of Kindness Week, the Renaissance assembly, the Herd, the Wishing Well and other events at school. Renaissance works to bring students together and to celebrate their achievements.
“I like working with my committee to recognize students who deserve to be recognized,” Wu said. “We want to showcase and feature students that are talented, unique and accomplish great things.”
Assemblies
The Assemblies committee is in charge of all the assemblies throughout the school year, lunchtime activities and lunchtime performances.
“I chose to be a part of the assemblies because I want to directly affect the school spirit and participation,” Senior Tiffany Cai said. “I wanted to ensure that everyone in school is able to be a part of exciting activities and thrilling performances.”
Not only is the assemblies committee in charge of the assemblies, they also plan other events such as the Mr. TC pageant and spirit weeks. To Junior Kristin Fang, an Assemblies commissioners, the committee impacts the campus by making the school more eventful and enjoyable.
Activities
The Activities committee is in charge of branding and planning all of the school dances. While select class representatives are part of the execution process for Winter Formal and Prom, this committee is responsible for the production of Homecoming and Sadies. Sometimes, they step in to help other committees with events such as Mr. TC and Dodgeball Tournaments.
Sophomore Tiana Ly is grateful to have the guidance of her team, since bringing a dance to life is a complex process.
“For this year, I’d have to say my favorite part about Activities is the people,” Ly said. “The seniors have made it a point to pass on their knowledge: the ‘give a man a fish, and feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime’ quote is really what it feels like.”
Campus
The Campus committee’s main jobs are to organize the clubs on campus and reaching out to our community. The committee also fundraises for ASBL and helps clubs fundraise as well.
“We basically plan the events, but we let the clubs sell the tickets and get a percentage of what we earn from the fundraising,” Senior Selena He said. “We also hold fundraisers for ASBL and use the money we earn for school assemblies.”
The committee also charters clubs and oversees all club activity.
“Campus is more like a behind the scenes committee in that it helps clubs fundraise,” He said. “I chose this committee because I was the fundraising commissioner for Society of Friends, so I decided to try it out.”
Public Relations
The Public Relations committee is responsible for making posters and advertising school events. The team makes a majority of the infographics that students see on their social media pages, which are also managed by the PR committee.
“The thing I enjoy the most about public relations is that we work with all the committees,” Junior Carolyn Ta said. “Even though I’m in this group, we are involved with things that go beyond and advertise for other committees too.”
