Mayor o-Fish-ially begins term

As the fifth agenda item for the Temple City City Council Meeting on March 19, the committee elected Ms. Nanette Fish as the new mayor of Temple City.
The mayor’s formal duties include running City Council meetings, representing the city at regional and state meetings and overseeing what is placed on the meeting agendas.
At the same meeting, Mr. Tom Chavez became the new mayor pro tempore. In the absence of the mayor, the mayor pro tempore will assume the position and duties until she returns.
“My main goal as mayor is to improve communication and understanding of exactly what city hall, staff and the City Council do for the community,” Ms. Fish said. “What keeps me motivated are the residents. I have met so many wonderful people through my volunteering who share my love for this city.”
Elected by Temple City citizens, the five City Council members serve four-year terms and elections take place every two years. Council members nominate and approve the mayor and mayor pro tempore in a majority vote annually in March.
Ms. Fish has lived in Temple City for 36 years and actively participated in several activities within the city, beginning with her participation as a Parent Teacher Association mom for her two children. She has also served in other city organizations such as the Camellia Festival Director, Woman’s Club of Temple City President and more.
“Mayor Fish has the experience and knowledge to do very well,” Mr. Chavez said. “She has been very involved in the community and gets along well with council, staff and our constituents. She will treat her position with respect and has the energy and desire needed to keep the city moving in a positive direction.”
