Musicians influence students in politics

Recently, major songwriters have stepped out of their comfort zones, including Taylor Swift, who supported a Democrat during a Tennessee Senate race, and Kanye West, who openly supports President Donald Trump. Many have boycotted the singers because they supposedly should only focus on making music. However, I strongly believe that everyone should exercise their right to express their political opinions, especially songwriters.
Many young people don’t care about politics. According to Vox, 64% of people aged 18-29 don’t vote. As someone who has strong political opinions, I am angered when thinking about the millennials who either don’t care about the issues that will define their future or only pretend to care.
Impartiality is one of the biggest hindrances to a better world. Students must get involved in political issues to create a future that they want to live in. The earlier they start trying to make a positive difference in the world, the better. After all, as the next generation, the future is in our hands.
More people that are in positions of power should use their platform to shape the next generation. Regardless of whether or not they are social media influencers, vloggers or songwriters, they need to spread more awareness about politics.
It doesn’t matter if someone is a politician or not. As long as the word is out that being involved in politics is crucial for a better future, professions don’t matter.
Songwriters have an especially large amount of influence over young people in today’s culture. Therefore, more artists need to follow the path that Kanye West and Taylor Swift started.
Openly expressing their political beliefs is the best way to positively impact the youth. We can only proceed towards a brighter future when apathy is overcome.
