Letter to the Editor: Crossing Horns: Kneeling during the national anthem

When you provide information I would highly appreciate it if you would provide all of the facts and not the parts that will fit into your story. I believe that this information that you failed to provide in your Crossing Horns entry would leave people believing that the police are racist when this is not the case. Although I cannot vouch for all police, many are not racist but the statistics you have provided would say otherwise. When you provided us the information “According to Mapping Police Violence in 2017, police killed 1,147 people, and 25% of them were black people, who make up 13.4% of the U.S. population” it does not give us an accurate representation. From the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting, Blacks and African Americans although making up 13.4% of the population commit 50% of violent crimes which would elicit a possible violent response resulting in such a high fatality rate.
