Hobbies to try during quarantine

By Michelle Lim, Staff Writer

Learn new languages to expand skill sets or even to impress friends. Resources such as Duolingo, YouTube and international movies are great materials to start with. TCHS has a diverse number of culture and language clubs to choose from. A few of these clubs are Cantonese, French, Indonesian, Japanese and Spanish.

Coding
Coding is a rewarding hobby to learn, and many students can translate that skill into a fulfilling career in the future. Find free tutorials on Khan Academy, or use apps such as Codecademy and SoloLearn to learn and track progress. There are a number of clubs at school such as Computer Science club, Girls Who Code and Codely that introduce students to the world of programming. Regular and AP Computer Science are also available courses to take during the school year.

Video Editing
Interested in content creation? Video editing is the perfect hobby for aspiring creators. Express creativity and make videos to share with the world. Hitfilm Express is a free video editing software that is easy to use and perfect for beginners.

Video Games
Have boundless fun in the popular game, “Among Us.” Play with friends or players around the world and explore this game of teamwork and deceit. It is available on Steam for $4.99 or free from the App Store.

Photography
Document life in quarantine through photography. Cameras are not necessarily required to start; simply pick up a phone and start snapping pictures. Keep an eye out for the small things in life that often get overlooked. Photography can be taken as an elective course for those who are interested in the medium. Learn more about photo composition, image editing, camera settings and more in this class.

Bullet Journaling
During this time of self-reflection, bullet journaling is the perfect hobby to start. All that is needed is a notebook and a pencil. Stay on top of things by making schedules, to-do lists, future goals and mood trackers.
