Fall sports update

Through rain or shine, TCHS fall sports teams are working towards their individual goals. In case you missed it, here is an update on  the current league standings and wins to losses of our fall athletic teams.

Cross Country

With an overall league ranking of second for Boys Varsity and fourth for Girls Varsity, the Cross Country team is running towards their goal of getting into Division III CIF. Following rankings of third place for Boys Varsity and second place for Girls Varsity at the Kenny Staub Invitational on Sept. 29, the team plans to use distance runs and speed workouts to further improve.
“I believe we have a good shot at making the CIF prelims,” Senior Daniel Jong said. “It would be a phenomenal experience, racing at a higher lever event.”

Girls Golf

With an overall record of 6-0, the Girls Varsity Golf team remains undefeated in their league. They hold six wins and two losses from the preseason. In their latest game on Sept. 27, they defeated the Alhambra Moors.
“In golf, I feel like the most important thing is your short game,” Sophomore Sidney Hsu said. “We’ve had the coach have us work more on our short game aspect of the game, like putting and chipping.”

Boys Football

After two wins and three losses this season, the Boys Varsity Football team maintains their hope of becoming the league champions. With their recent losses to Monrovia on Sept. 28 and Polytechnic on Sept. 14, players are using the games as opportunities to learn and improve. The team plans to achieve their goal of becoming league champions by giving their all at practices and games alike.
“We’ve had our ups and downs, but we manage to get through it,” Senior Daniel Centeno Jr. said. “Each week we get better and better.”

Boys Water Polo
The Boys Varsity Water Polo team currently has an overall league score of 10-3, with numerous victories under their belt. They recently defeated the Monrovia Wildcats on Sept. 27 with a score of 13-7.
“We have younger guys on the team this year that haven’t experienced high school water polo,” Junior Peter Trinh said. “My goal this year is to step up as a leader and guide the younger guys to get used to this environment.”
Despite the setback of the pool being under renovation, the Rams are determined to make up for this loss through hard work and reviewing games in order to improve.
Girls Tennis
Working to improve their current league score of  1-2, the Girls Varsity Tennis team is training hard to face new opponents in Division I CIF.
With new Head Coach Richard Slaymaker, the athletes had to adjust to some changes in their workout routine. The athletes spend most of their practices conditioning, and a typical day consists of serving and footwork drills as well as strength training exercises. The team intends to stay consistent in their efforts and enjoy the season.
Girls Volleyball
Although the Girls Varsity Volleyball team has a current league score of 1-5, they continue to hope for victories in the remainder of the season. Coming out of a 3-0 loss to La Canada on Sept. 27, the team seeks to improve their communication skills on the court and for players to achieve their individual goals.
“Our goal was to win league, and we are still going to strive for it,” Junior Bay Hollinger said. “But what we really want it to do the best we can.”
