Home sweet home

There’s no place like home, hence the phrase “home sweet home,” but recently, my home is no longer a safe haven for me. Last year, my sweet, safe home in Temple City was robbed in the daytime.
I’ve lived in Temple City for my whole life, and we all know it is an extremely safe city, so it was a huge shock to find my house robbed. Where you feel safest is where you are the most vulnerable. Likewise, the sweetest things, the things you love so much, are the easiest to turn sour.
I still remember that day. I came home after a tennis match to find all my drawers flipped inside out. The idea didn’t occur to me yet, so I asked my mom if she looked for something in my closet. She said no, so I slowly said, “Mom, I think we got robbed.”
My mother suddenly started freaking out and we realized that the robber broke the door handle of our sliding door. We rushed to our neighbor’s house and called 911 from there.
Although we did not physically get hurt, ever since then, I’ve been so paranoid. Robberies take away your sense of safety, because your home is the place where you feel the most comfortable and the most at peace.
The thought of that stranger wearing his shoes in my house and invading my family’s privacy terrifies me. My privacy is gone. The fact that our family pictures are all over my house makes me feel uneasy as well.
Whenever I think about that day, my house feels dirty and uncomfortable. The robber ruined my house’s clean, peaceful aura. If you rob my house, the least you can do is take your shoes off before entering.
Lately, more robberies have been occurring in the 626, which is extremely unfortunate for those who must endure the same experience as me. When I’m sleeping and I hear a strange noise, my paranoid mind insists that there is a robber in my house.
But I’m here to tell you that if you hear a strange noise, most likely, it’s just your mom cleaning the kitchen in the middle of the night.
If it truly is a robber, pretend to sleep and let them steal your stuff. Although I do miss my precious Forever 21 necklaces, don’t risk your life for a few material items.
