The Class of 2020 graduation ceremony is tentatively set on Aug. 7, but with social distancing measures taken into consideration.
“I think it’s a great time for a graduation,” Assistant Principal Martia Law said. “We are so excited to celebrate and recognize these amazing students and their efforts.”
Distribution of caps and gowns will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 6. In accomodation to social distancing measures, seniors will line up underneath balconies of all the two story buildings on campus and staff members will drop the cap and gown over the railing.
“This is definitely going to be a special occasion,” teacher Vaxine Ngo said. “I’m so excited to take pictures and congratulate my students, even if it is six feet apart.”
Seniors will be separated into classrooms by last name and will stay six feet apart from one another until their name is called over the PA system. Then, they will go to 311 in order to receive their diploma, which will be tossed to them by principal Tess Ting.
“I’m so happy we are finally graduating,” student Rhea Surch said. “I will say that it’s kinda problematic when signing yearbooks. Since we can’t have physical contact, we have to toss it to each other. Unfortunately, someone’s book already broke because of butterfingers.”
The orchestra will set up on the football field and play into microphones connected to the PA system in order for all students to hear. Musicians in the back row will also be provided with binoculars in order to see the conductor.
