Online games to play with friends, family

After an entire month of being in lockdown, it’s natural that people may become bored or starved for social interaction. You might be wondering when you can talk to your friends next, or what you’ll do when you grow tired of checking off your plan-to-watch list. To help with that, this list of fun online games to play with your friends or family aims to solve both problems and maybe even bring some great memories.

“Skribbl.io”

This free browser-based game is reminiscent of the charades-inspired game Pictionary, where each player must guess what the drawn object is. Players have 80 seconds or less to guess what the drawing is, with new letters popping up as hints while time runs out. Participants will type their guesses in the chatroom, so beware! One wrong letter and other players may find themselves with the answer before you do. The game is free on the website and private servers can hold up to 12 players. This is a great game to play with your friends and family, whether in-person or apart.

“Town of Salem”

Based on board games such as Werewolf and Mafia, this 2014 classic has been around for quite a while but still holds up due to the simplicity of its mechanics. Up to 15 players can participate in a game, with most of the players taking on the role of the good guys, or “townies.” These players must survive attempts at their lives from serial killers, arsonists and the mafia. Players will find typical roles such as vigilantes or detectives, but also more fantastical ones from witches to vampires. With a maximum of 3,000 concurrent players every day, people are sure to find somebody to play with. Town of Salem is $4.99 on Steam and the BlankMediaGames website.

“Golf With Your Friends”

This is a game that may make friendships stronger or break them into tiny pieces. A maximum of 12 players play as golf balls, trying to get through nine courses, each consisting of multiple levels. Chaos ensues as players crash against each other, knocking each other off-course in an attempt to get into the hole. The courses are unique in their themes, from pirate ships to medieval castles, and each player can completely customize their golf balls, such as changing the colors or adding little hats. The game is $9.99 and guarantees long hours of yelling and laughing with your friends.
