Games, movies, shows postponed/canceled

Many film production and video game companies rescheduled release dates for movies, television shows and video games amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Movies

Disney decided to postpone their live-action remake of the 1998 animated film “Mulan” to July 24, originally set to release on March 27. Disney also halted the production of live-action films “The Little Mermaid,” “The Last Duel,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Peter Pan & Wendy.” “Artemis Fowl” was originally scheduled to release on Aug. 9 but due to the pandemic, Disney bumped the release date by two months and will premiere on Disney Plus on June 12. Marvel rearranged the release date for “Black Widow” to Nov. 6, originally scheduled for May 1. Marvel also delayed the release for “Eternals” to Feb. 12, 2021, first set to release on Nov. 6. The release date for “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” was initially slated for July 31. However, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures postponed it to Aug. 7 until further notice. Paramount Pictures delayed the release for their horror movie sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II” which was set to release on March 8 but currently rescheduled to Sept. 4. Illumination and Universal pushed back the release of “Minions: The Rise of Gru” by a year. The theatrical release was originally scheduled for July 3, 2020 but moved to July 2, 2021.

TV Shows

Netflix halted the production of “The Witcher” season two, “Stranger Things” season four and “Lucifer” season five amid the spread of COVID-19. ABC cut finale season 16 of American drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” short by four episodes due to the pandemic. However, the show is renewed for a 17th season. Streaming service Disney Plus paused the production of upcoming Marvel Studios series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “WandaVision” and “Loki.”

Video Games

Action-adventure survival horror PlayStation 4 game, “The Last of Us Part II” developed by Naughty Dog will launch on June 19 after a delay from the initial release on May 29. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, “Outer Worlds” will release on June 5 as an action role-playing game. The game is already out on other platforms such as PS4 and Microsoft Windows; however, it will be available on the Nintendo Switch for $59.99.
